GBC Year-End Season Awards and AOY
To say this has been a crazy and unprecedented end to an otherwise AMAZING tournament season would be an understatement. Our anglers showed up BIG all season long, were consistently at the top of the leader boards and demonstrated a passion and grit that rivals what is seen on the pro circuits.
Unfortunately our season was abruptly cut short by COVID-19 and anglers had to come to grips with the fact that their beloved sport would have to be put on hold. This is a bitter pill for everyone, but especially for our Seniors whose last few tournaments were taken from them.
For me personally, the GBC year-end banquet is one of my favorite events. It is where our families get together in fellowship, enjoy good food, good times with good people, and recognize the outstanding performances and accomplishments of the year. So we did something a little different - we Zoomed! :-) Although it certainly wasn't the same as getting together in person, we still had a great time seeing familiar faces for the first time in months, and were able to announce our awards virtually:
FAN South AOY:
For the second year in a row, a GBC member won AOY for FAN South Division. Congratulations to Lane Carpenter and Aaden Thomas who were Co-Anglers of the Year for FAN South! Y'all had an amazing season and we are so proud to have you representing our club.
GBC AOY:
Ty Mechler was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Stephens Roofing as Guardians Bass Club Angler of the Year for 2019-2020
AOY Runner-Up was Logan Decock who was awarded a $600 GBC Scholarship
AOY 2nd Runner-Up was Lane Carpenter who was awarded a $400 GBC Scholarship
Josiah Tate was awarded the Guardian Spirit Award for always maintaining a positive attitude both on and off the water.
Major McCarty was awarded the For Love Of The Game Award for demonstrating a true passion for the sport.
We also recognized Norma Herrera as GBC Volunteer Of The Year for her never-ending devotion to helping our club and our anglers.
Finally we recognized our two GBC Seniors Alex Herrera and Blake Martinez. These anglers had an amazing season, qualified for both the FAN Championship and THSBA Regionals and put in consistent performances at every tournament. They also were amazing leaders as Club Vice-President and Club President, respectively. Both are moving on to fish at the collegiate level for Tarleton State University in the Fall and we wish them all the best!
As of right now, both FAN and THSBA Championships are still a go and we'd like to congratulate the following GBC Anglers who worked hard to qualify for each. Congratulations to everyone on an amazing season!!
